Ecoglass

Ecoglass is a leading supplier of insulated glass units (IGUs) commonly referred to as double glazed units to the Canberra and surrounding region. The business has been manufacturing IGUs since 1992 and has invested heavily in the latest German technology enabling it to make up to 300 IGUs per day. Ecoglass prides its self on the quality of our IGUs and the extra level of service offered to our customers.

Although primarily a wholesaler of IGUs to window makers Ecoglass also sells direct to the public. Our products come with a seven (7) year warranty when installed according to glazing guidelines. This warranty is extended to ten (10) years when installed by qualified glaziers in commercial applications.

Insulated Glass Units (IGUs)

Insulated glass units (IGUs) commonly refer to double glazing but also encompases triple glazing. Double glazing consists of two panes of glass separated by an air space. The panes of glass are bonded to a spacer bar and the airspace is completely sealed. The process is repeated again to make a triple glazed unit.

IGUs perform better than typical single glazing because the air trapped between the panes of glass act as an insulator. The bigger the sealed airspace between the glass panes the better the thermal insulation properties offered. Ecoglass uses spacer bars ranging from 6mm to 24mm in width and come in silver, bronze or black. Argon gas can also be used to replace the air inside the IGU further improving the thermal insulation properties.

Double and triple glazed units are made in our factor using our Lenhardt AG IGU line. It washes then dries the glass, has a back-lit inspection station to detect any flaws in the glass, presses the glass together, and then seals the IGU. The sealant is left to dry overnight with any excess scraped off by hand. The machine can manufacture IGUs from 300mm x 300mm up to 2250mm x 4000mm in size. Smaller, larger and shaped units are made by hand.

Benefits of Double Glazing

Despite extravagant claims made about some single glazed glass products, none of them compare to the insulation performance characteristics offered by double glazing. The benefits of double glazing offered over typical 3mm thick single monolithic glazing include:

> Reducing heat loss by 55% with the use of an integrated
> performance lowE glass as part of the IGU.
> Reducing heat loss by 45% using a standard IGU
> Reducing solar heat gain by 55% with the use of a high
> performance IGU
> Reducing solar heat gain by 35% with the use of a toned IGU.
> Reducing transmitted noise by up to 65% with the use of
> laminated glass as part of the IGU.
> Reduce the effects of ultra violet light (ie fading of precious furniture > coverings) by integrating laminated glass as part of the IGU.
